REVIEW | A Star Is Born

Last weekend me & Adam managed to find a good copy of A Star is Born online, and although Adam was sure it wouldn’t be his cup of tea we gave it a go. Here are my thoughts and a review of it…

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that this is one of the most popular movies of 2018 so far starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

The film is about a famous singer, Jackson Maine, who is struggling with an alcohol and drug addiction. One night, he ends up in a bar where he discovers, and eventually falls in love with, Ally, a struggling artist.

Jackson basically forces Ally to come and sing one of her songs on stage with him and this is where her talent is noticed and her career really takes off. However, all the while Ally rises to fame, her relationship with Jackson begins to turn rocky, thus his alcohol and drug problems get worse.

I was amazed to find out that Bradley Cooper actually directed the movie himself. Without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it yet, if you are a crier when it comes to movies, I highly recommend keeping a packet of tissues close by because towards the ending it becomes a lump-in-the-throat, tear jerking moment and ultimately you will end up an emotional wreck – yep that was me. Unlike other romances, the story is really well told and actually realistic instead of being too cheesy!

So my final thoughts are that A Star is Born is a fantastic movie, the acting and songs are beautifully done, which I can tell you now you will be downloading the soundtrack and singing them for a while after watching! If emotional tear-jerkers are your thing then this will not disappoint! I’ve always been a fan of Lady Gaga and she was absolutely perfect for this role, as was Bradley Cooper for his part.

Just a small note, there is a fair bit of swearing, drug use, alcohol and sex in this film so be wary when watching this film with people under the age of 15.

Have you seen A Star is Born yet? What were your thoughts?

Thank you for reading.
